Chisapani Nagarkot Hiking

Day 1: Drive to Sundarijal and Trek to Chisapani (2150m), Duration: 5 Hrs.

Early morning we will drive to Sundarijal. On the way, you can observe beautiful landscape, and your eyes get pleasant with an amazing view of the Ganesh Himal. The drive to Sundarijal pass through the high hills with large forest vegetation. After you reach Sundarijal, you will follow a stone-paved path. You ascend upward to reach the entrance of the Shivapuri National Park. The village has been named as Sundarijal because in village there is a temple dedicated to the Hindu deity Sundarima. The village is also famous for Canyoning which has the Bagmati River flowing through it. Further, it is linked by the other two rivers; Shyalmati and Bagmati in the lower elevation. Sundarijal is generally covered by forests and has few flat zones; therefore, it is largely hilly with respect to its area coverage.

As you hike from Sundarijal to the Shivapuri National Park, the natural beauty presented around the trail looks pretty vibrant.  The wide-open views of the gleaming mountains popping up in between the green hills will amaze you. Shivapuri National Park that covers an area of the 159-kilometer square was named after the Shivapuri Peak.

The Chisapani hiking through the park is ornamented with several species of both vascular and prevalent species of flora and subtropical Himalayan woods. The faunal diversity of the national park includes animals such as Pangolins, Himalayan Black Bears, Leopards, and Jungle cats. The journey to Chisapani offers the mountain views of the Gaurishankar Range, the Ganesh Himal, the Annapurna Panorama, and many other peaks. Overnight stay at the guesthouse at Chisapani.

Day 2: Chisapani – Nagarkot (2195m), Duration: 5 – 6 hrs.

Compare to previous day, the hike from Chisapnai to Nagarkot is going to be even more exciting with an amazing journey of mountain views and a beautiful hilly outlook. Today, you will pass through more dense forests, massive woodlands, an army camp, and other small villages. The trail twists a little bit of upward and downward paths with a lush vegetation, which supplies a pleasing surrounding for the hike. Nagarkot is covered with thick forests and is located in a lush green valley.

Nagarkot is situated to the north of the city and above the valley which is famous for its sunrise view amidst the Himalayas. It is also called the premier Hill Station of the Kathmandu valley. The view tower of Nagarkot provides the view of Mount Everest, along with many other peaks of eastern Nepal. It also offers a panoramic view of the Kathmandu valley and the Shivapuri National Park. The history states, Nagarkot was an ancient fort of the Kathmandu valley built to monitor the external activities of other kingdoms, because of its strategic location. Later, it became a retreat for the royal family before becoming popular as an international hill station.

Nagarkot is nearest to Kathmandu and it tips one of the broadest views of 8 ranges out of 13 Himalayan ranges of Nepal. The Himalayan ranges includes the Everest range, the Rolwaling range, the Jugal range, the Langtang range, the Ganesh Himal range, the Manaslu range, the Annapurna range, and the Number range. After a long day walk, you will arrive at the destination, the view of the sun gradually sinking behind those hills and the mountains will spellbind your heart. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 3: Nagarkot – Changunarayan – Kathmandu, Duration: 3 hours walk

In the morning, after you wake up you can notice the wonderful sunrise amidst the sapphire mountain ranges from your hotel room. Without even having to walk through the difficult rough trails, you can enjoy Himalayan views from the comfort of hotel balconies, which makes Nagarkot a popular destination. After the breakfast, we make our way back to Kathmandu.

Engraving the sight of a sunset view in the previous evening and sunrise of the morning from the room window in our hearts, our hike again starts descending through the trails to reach Changunarayan. Our driver will then transfer you to Kathmandu from Changunarayan with a private vehicle drive.
